Keep Quilting Class

If you have taken the “Start Quilting” Class or would like to “step up” your quilting skills beyond the beginner level, then this 2-session class may be of interest to you. We will be focusing on bias cuts and techniques to avoid “stretch” in our quilts. We can help you choose the fabrics for this project.

The final quilt size is a 40” square.

Supply List

Pattern – “Barn Star 6”

fabric requirements – purchase kit: If available (which includes pattern) or follow fabric requirements on the back of the pattern, noting that 1 1⁄4 yards is sufficient for the backing.

Rotary Cutter

Mat Board -- medium to large size (must measure at least 24” long)

Quilting Ruler that measures 6” x 24”

Smaller Ruler for accurate diagonal lines and sub-cuts (i.e. 6” square,  6”x12”, etc.)

Fabric Pencil/Pen for marking your sewing lines

Basic Sewing Supplies: sewing thread, pins, scissors, seam ripper, pen and paper

for notes

Sewing Machine: in good working order!

BEFORE YOU COME TO CLASS: This class will focus on important sewing tips and techniques when working with bias sub-cuts. To best utilize our time together, I want you to COMPLETE THE CUTTING INSTRUCTIONS FOR YOUR FABRICS A THROUGH O, as found on the second page of your pattern guide under “Cutting Instructions”. Be sure you label each fabric cut as you go. If you have questions, I am in the store every Thursday from 10:00am to 6:00pm. Or you can call me at home: (540) 237-4812.

Our class policies reflect our desire for each student to arrive prepared and ready for their class. Payment in full is required when you register. This holds your space. If the class does not fill and/or we need to cancel due to insufficient numbers or adverse weather conditions, you will receive your money back in full. If we reschedule and it doesn’t suit you for this date, we will refund you your money. If you need to cancel, please do so 48 hours ahead of class time in order to receive your full refund. This allows us time to notify those on a waiting list. Sorry if you forget to come, we cannot refund you any fees incurred.
Please review your class supply list carefully. If there is home work prior to class, please complete it. We cannot hold up the entire class if one member does not have proper preparations made. You may email the teacher if you have any questions. Please know how to thread your machine, sew a straight line and wind a bobbin before starting a class. Our teachers are not prepared to give a guide class on various machines plus teach their class. If you need machine owners lessons, we can schedule one at your convenience at $75.00 an hour.
Please come in the back door. Parking is closer and we will be glad to help you carry in your machine and supplies if you need help.
